Halle des Bouchers Contemporary Art Centre
The architectural simplicity and beauty of the former butchers' market with its vaulted room made it the ideal venue for contemporary art. Rich heritage and artistic creation are the venue's watchwords.
Description
The Halle des Bouchers provides support for artistic projects combining high standards and local ties. The aim is to link contemporary creation with the town's rich heritage.
Through an ambitious cultural mediation programme designed for the general public, the Centre of Contemporary Art has set up partnerships with other cultural players in the region in order to promote and develop contemporary art.
At the heart of the old town centre, the "Butchers' Market" dates from the 16th century. Its specific architectural features – a vaulted room with pillars – led the City of Vienne to dedicate the site to the region's cultural development. Past and present are combined to provide the general public with unique and easy access to contemporary art.
With 300 m² of exhibition space, the Halle des Bouchers Centre of Contemporary Art hosts 4 or 5 exhibitions a year with a wide range of artists.
