Cybèle archaeological garden
The Cybèle garden contains the complex remains of a district at the heart of the Gallo-Roman city: the forum.
Description
The Cybèle archaeological garden displays the remains of the administrative centre of the Gallo-Roman city: the forum.
It is made up of 3 key areas:
- Two arcades from an impressive forum portico are sculpted with symbolic ornamental patterns (a river god), showing the importance of the forum in the Roman urban layout.
- a large stone wall, which was part of a municipal assembly room hosting 800 magistrates on terraced seating that can still be seen.
- A large and probably luxurious town house (domus) with decorated patios. Important archaeological discoveries have been made here.
