Vienne’s Historic Festival

On August 31 and September 1, 2024, Vienne invites you to dive into the heart of the Middle Ages with its annual historical festival. This year’s theme, “Dames et Damoiselles”, promises to enchant young and old with a host of entertainment and shows. In the majestic setting of the ancient theater, you can watch tournaments of chivalry, spectacular jousting, impressive stunts and acrobatic displays. The whole town will be transformed into a medieval village, where craftsmen, merry-go-rounds, games and creative workshops will bring to life the art of living of yesteryear. Pony rides, costume parades, dance performances and music will animate the streets of Vienna, offering an immersive and festive experience for all visitors. Come one, come all to celebrate this fascinating era and discover the mysteries and wonders of the Middle Ages!
For two days, the whole town goes back in time: medieval market in the town centre, parades, walks, shows at the Théâtre Antique… More than 500 volunteers and a dozen theatrical companies take part in the event and make Vienne unrecognisable!
The Vienne Historic Festival is a real trip back to the Middle Ages which each year gathers more than 20,000 visitors over two days! The high spots of Vienne’s heritage, such as the Théâtre Antique and the Garden of Cybèle, are brought into focus by reconstructions of camps, unusual performances and shows with original stagings: knights’ battles, troops’ parades, typical dances, magic…
Strolling down the streets or through the stalls of the typical medieval market becomes a real adventure, a total immersion in another time…
The Fête Historique is a unique experience, where Vienne vibrates to the sounds of medieval instruments, knights, stilt-walkers and other troubadours in period costume!
