Vienne Theatre
This Italian-style theatre, built in 1782, is listed as a historic monument. All its original architecture has been preserved, including the horseshoe-shaped room on three levels, the foyer and the vast staircases all around it.
Description
The Italian-style theatre with corbel arches features stalls, two balconies, a classical stage (6.50 m x 9 m) and an orchestra pit now equipped with seating. The theatre's vaulted ceiling (cupola) is decorated with a fresco. The foyer features painted decorations from the 18th century (languid poses with pink-fleshed figures amidst foliage and clouds).
A capacity for 350 spectators, as well as the sound and technical equipment, make this an intimate venue where the public enjoys close contact with the artists, as well as exceptional sound quality. It is a real bijou theatre at the heart of Vienne.
The building is not open to visits outside performance times.
